There’s a lot to pack in on Saturday and Sunday. The workload for many of us is just as full on the weekend as it is during the week. This weekend, however, I encourage you to do something spontaneous and delightful with your whole family. Take your children to see a live show!
Playing this weekend at the Straz Center for Performing Arts, in Tampa, FL, is Erth’s DINOSAUR ZOO Live. This show is an interactive theater performance which will stir your child’s imagination and excite their love for learning about new things. Whether your child is a dinosaur enthusiast or just has a basic understanding, this show will keep your kids on the edge of their seats! The puppets are amazing, and the “growing” plants display the kind of magic that live theater brings to children of all ages!
My daughter and nephew had a wonderful time! At first, they were intimidated by the jungle sounds and leery about what to expect. By the end, they were roaring with the “heard” to keep the T-Rex in check. This show has two more performances I encourage you to see–March 1 and 2, at 2:00pm.
To continue the fun at home, the Straz provides a downloadable study guide for the show. Theater connects children to their imagination and brings reading to life. After the show, you can use the study guide for further reading and projects that will extend the excitement into the week. A study by Dr. James Catteral, of UCLA’s Graduate School of Education, looked at longitudinal data of 25,000 students involved in the arts. The study showed that consistent participation in theater and the arts, greatly improves academic performance and significantly bumps up standardized test scores. Students who make time for the arts are also more involved in community service, and less likely to drop out of school. As if you needed another reason to take your kids to a show…!!
Make sure to check out all of the kid-friendly shows the Straz offers! The magic of the theater awaits!!
